Rosewood Ranch

Rosewood Ranch, Scottish highland cattle, Deer River, MN, sits in northern Minnesota near Duluth. The ranch is managed by Ken Schaar, who has been raising Scottish highland cattle for more than a decade and is a member of the American Highland Cattle Association. All cattle receive regular health screenings and hoof trims before being introduced to pasture.

Ken’s approach centers on gentle handling and gradual socialization, with calves spending their first weeks close to the house. The herd grazes on mixed grasses and forbs across rotational paddocks to support hoof health and natural behavior. Rosewood Ranch has earned praise for its friendly animals at regional fairs, and many buyers note their calm disposition and glossy coats.

The ranch sits on 200 acres of mixed pasture and woodland, allowing the herd room to roam across fertile soils. Facilities include a heated barn for winter care and sturdy run-in sheds during summer storms.
