Acanthoscurria theraphosoides
Acanthoscurria theraphosoides
Acanthoscurria theraphosoides is a ground-dwelling Amazonian tarantula recorded from Brazil, French Guiana, Peru and Bolivia. Adults are dark brown with grayish lower-leg hairs, paired cream knee stripes, thin pale joint rings and reddish abdominal hairs. Older collections may label it A.
brocklehursti or A. ferina, both now synonyms. Specialist hobbyists provide a secure, low enclosure with deep substrate, a retreat and water. Its defensive abdominal hairs can irritate skin and eyes. Females lay eggs in a silk sac.
