Unknown Breed
An unknown breed African pygmy hedgehog is a pet hedgehog whose family line, color background, or breeder classification is missing. The animal may still be described by visible color, such as salt and pepper, pinto, cinnamon, albino, or snowflake, but those terms do not confirm ancestry. Unknown is a useful honest label for rescues, rehomes, or animals without paperwork.
Care should begin with body condition, age estimate, teeth, skin, feet, and behavior rather than a pedigree label. African pygmy hedgehogs need warm temperatures, low-stress handling, secure housing, and a safe wheel for nightly activity. Unknown background animals should not be bred casually, because inherited health or temperament information is absent. Good photos and veterinary notes can still make future care much easier.
