Amazonian Poison Frog
Ranitomeya amazonica
This small poison frog inhabits Amazonian forest and is bred by dart-frog hobbyists. Color varies by population; the Iquitos form has a red-orange head and back markings over black, with blue-netted legs. Keepers use planted, humid terrariums with leaf litter, tiny insects and clean water-filled breeding sites. Females lay eggs, and males carry tadpoles to small pools. Its identity should be kept separate from frogs sold under older, broader uses of the name ventrimaculata.
