Tunisian Fat Tail Scorpion
Androctonus amoreuxi
The Tunisian fat tail scorpion is a pale yellow North African species with slender pincers and a ridged tail that is less swollen than that of Androctonus australis. It appears in the specialist scorpion trade. A secure, escape-proof enclosure with dry, diggable substrate, a shelter and a water source suits its desert background.
Its venom contains toxins active against mammalian nerve channels; it is a hands-off display animal for experienced keepers. Females give birth to live young, which initially ride on the mother.
