Black Fat Tail Scorpion
Androctonus bicolor
The black fat tail scorpion is a dark, heavily tailed species confirmed from northern Egypt to Israel. Narrow pincer hands and yellowish extremities help distinguish it from other dark Androctonus, although color alone is unreliable. It is kept by specialist hobbyists in securely closed desert enclosures with a hide, dry substrate and water. Toxicology studies document venom effects on mammals, so handling is inappropriate. Females bear live young. Older records from farther west may refer to related species.
