Ebony Fat Tail Scorpion
Androctonus gonneti
The ebony fat tail scorpion is a dark species recorded from southern Morocco and Western Sahara. Males have broad, pear-shaped pincer hands with long, paler fingers, contrasting with the narrow hands of Androctonus bicolor. It is an uncommon specialist display scorpion. Use a firmly closed enclosure with dry, diggable substrate, a rock-like shelter and water.
Its venom is unstudied; related Androctonus cause medically significant stings, so never handle it. Accurate identification and locality matter among dark fat tails. Like other scorpions, females give birth to live young.
