Chiricahuan Gray Tarantula
Aphonopelma gabeli
The Chiricahuan gray tarantula is a burrowing Aphonopelma from the Chihuahuan Desert of southeastern Arizona, southern New Mexico and western Texas. Females are brownish gray, sometimes with a greenish cast after molting, and have a dark abdomen with longer rust hairs. Color alone does not separate it reliably from related species. Hobbyists keep it singly with a hide, diggable substrate, water and little fall height. Avoid handling and irritating defensive hairs. Females lay eggs in a silk sac.
