Armadillidium granulatum
Armadillidium granulatum
Armadillidium granulatum is a Mediterranean pill isopod maintained in hobby colonies. The familiar captive form has a gray, finely textured back marked with yellow spots, and breeders also maintain selected color lines. Adults can roll into a ball when disturbed. A colony needs leaf litter and decaying organic material, a moist retreat and ventilation. Females carry developing young in a brood pouch and release live offspring. The scientific name helps distinguish it from other yellow-spotted Armadillidium.
