Asian Common Toad
Duttaphrynus melanostictus
The Asian common toad is a warty, ground-dwelling toad familiar across parts of southern Asia and maintained by specialist amphibian keepers. Adults have prominent dark head ridges and black-tipped warts. Specialist care uses ventilated enclosures with soil, sheltered moist retreats, clean water and suitable insect prey. It lays strings of eggs in water, where the tadpoles develop. Recent research has found divergent lineages within the wider Asian common-toad complex, so locality and identity matter.
