Asian Forest Scorpion (Heterometrus longimanus)
Heterometrus longimanus
Heterometrus longimanus is a black forest scorpion ranging from the Andaman Islands through parts of Southeast Asia and the Philippines. Adult males have conspicuously long claw-bearing arms and a reddish-brown sting bulb paler than the last tail segment. It shelters under bark, in tree cavities and beneath logs; whether it digs burrows is uncertain.
Specialist keepers provide a secure, ventilated enclosure with humid conditions, moisture-holding substrate and bark retreats. Avoid handling and unreliable trade labels. Females bear live young.
