Australian Cockroach
Validiblatta australasiae
The Australian cockroach is a warm-climate roach now found far beyond its presumed African origin. A sharply pale-edged head shield and yellow streak along each forewing's outer base distinguish adults from American cockroaches. It is kept in laboratory and specialist colonies, but can also become a greenhouse pest. Secure housing needs warm conditions, ventilated moist retreats and varied food. Females lay egg cases. Older references call it Periplaneta australasiae.
