Bahia Scarlet Tarantula
Lasiodora klugi
The Bahia scarlet tarantula is a large Brazilian Atlantic Forest species found from Bahia into neighboring states. Adults are dark, with long tan or yellowish leg hairs and reddish abdominal hairs; color varies with locality and molt. Wild spiders use burrows, fallen trunks and hollows among tree roots. Hobbyists keep it in spacious, low enclosures with deep substrate, a sturdy hide and water. Its abdominal hairs can irritate skin and eyes, so handling is best avoided. Females protect their eggs in silk sacs.
