Big Black Beetle Mimic
Ergaula pilosa
The big black beetle mimic is a large Ergaula maintained in specialist collections. Adult males are usually solid chocolate brown, sometimes with a small pale wing spot, and are larger and darker than Burmese beetle mimics. Females are built for burrowing and can remain still when exposed. Colonies use organic substrate with moist retreats, ventilation and varied food. Females lay egg cases. Adult males climb and may fly, so secure upper enclosure edges are needed.
