Boll's Sand Cockroach
Arenivaga bolliana
Boll's sand cockroach is a large Arenivaga associated with leaf-rich soils in Texas. Males have long wings; females are broad, rounded and wingless, resembling female Egyptian sand roaches. Specialist colonies need deep digging substrate, rotting hardwood leaves and a moisture gradient rather than bare sand alone. Females produce egg cases. This is a burrowing roach whose adult sexes look very different, and females cannot be identified reliably from general body shape alone.
