Brazil-Nut Poison Frog
Adelphobates castaneoticus
This small poison frog comes from Brazil's Amazon forest and is bred by specialist hobbyists. Its black body carries white markings with orange or yellow flashes on the legs. Keepers provide humid planted terrariums, leaf litter, shelters, tiny supplemented insects and water for larvae. Females lay small clutches of eggs in protected sites, and the tadpoles develop in water. Different bloodlines vary in their white markings, so a spotted adult should not be treated as a separate species.
