Brazilian Horned Frog
Ceratophrys aurita
This large horned frog comes from Brazil's Atlantic Forest and is bred by experienced amphibian hobbyists. Adults have a broad mouth, raised eyelid projections and a brown or green pattern that can darken with age. Keepers provide moist burrowing substrate, hides, shallow clean water and suitable prey. Adults need separate housing because they may eat other frogs. It lays eggs that develop into aquatic tadpoles. Its Atlantic Forest origin distinguishes it from the Amazonian Surinam horned frog.
