Brazilian Jewel Tarantula
Typhochlaena seladonia
The Brazilian jewel tarantula is a small, brightly colored Brazilian species that makes a camouflaged trapdoor retreat on tree bark. Its greenish carapace and patterned abdomen distinguish it from familiar ground-dwelling tarantulas. Experienced keepers provide a secure, well-ventilated enclosure with upright bark and suitable material for building its retreat. Offer suitably small insects and water, and avoid disturbing the trapdoor. Do not handle this delicate spider. Females lay eggs in silk sacs.
