Brazilian Poison Frog
Ranitomeya vanzolinii
A small poison frog of the western Amazon, this species has a black body with yellow round spots and blue-netted limbs. Dart-frog specialists breed it in planted terrariums with humid cover, very small insect prey and protected egg sites. It lays eggs, and males transport tadpoles to tiny pools where females provide unfertilized food eggs. The rounded back spots distinguish the usual captive form from the broken yellow stripes of Ranitomeya flavovittata.
