Brazilian Red Tarantula
Nhandu carapoensis
The Brazilian red tarantula is a robust terrestrial spider from Brazil and Paraguay, including grassland and savanna regions. Adults have a brown to dark body with long reddish hairs and only faint pale leg rings; females carry especially long, curly hairs. It is a specialist hobby species rather than a bright red spider throughout.
Provide a secure, low enclosure with diggable substrate, a shelter and water. Avoid handling because defensive abdominal hairs can irritate skin and eyes. Females produce silk egg sacs.
