Caribbean Bronze Tarantula
Phormictopus auratus
The Caribbean bronze tarantula is a Cuban species sold as Phormictopus auratus. Adult females have a golden-bronze carapace and leg hairs over a dark body; sheen changes with light and molt. Its bronze-toned appearance has made it recognizable in the hobby, though coloration alone cannot confirm identity.
Experienced keepers provide a secure, ventilated ground-level enclosure with substantial substrate, a sheltered retreat and drinking water. Offer appropriately sized insects and avoid handling; large terrestrial tarantulas can be injured by falls. Females lay eggs in a silk sac.
