Brown-Banded Cockroach
Supella longipalpa
The brown-banded cockroach is a small household pest also maintained in laboratory and specialist colonies. Adults and young have two pale transverse bands, unlike the lengthwise head-shield stripes of German cockroaches. Males are slimmer and longer-winged than females. Captive colonies require strict escape prevention, warmth, ventilation and access to moisture without a saturated substrate. Females attach egg cases to sheltered surfaces. Escaped individuals can establish indoors.
