Buffy-Tufted-Ear Marmoset
Callithrix aurita
This small monkey lives in the montane Atlantic Forest of southeastern Brazil. Mostly black fur, a white forehead marking and very long pale ear hairs distinguish it from the buffy-headed marmoset. Zoo conservation teams keep social groups with climbing structures, nesting boxes and a specialist marmoset diet. Females give birth to live young. US primate-import restrictions apply, and the species is US ESA endangered and CITES Appendix I listed.
