Burmese Beetle Mimic
Ergaula capucina
The Burmese beetle mimic is a burrowing Asian cockroach with strongly different adult sexes. Females are rounded and beetle-like; males have longer wings with a cream toffee-colored streak or patch. Unlike the larger, darker big black beetle mimic, many males retain that conspicuous pale wing marking. Specialist colonies use deep organic substrate with a damp lower layer and a drier surface. Females lay egg cases. Adult males can climb and need secure containment.
