Unknown Breed
An unknown breed canary is a domestic canary, Serinus canaria, whose variety or breeding background has not been identified. It may be a pet-line bird, an unregistered cross between type or color lines, or a canary bought without breeder records. Feather color alone rarely settles the question, because green, yellow, buff, cinnamon, white, clear, variegated, crested, and non-crested traits can appear across different strains.
For owners, the practical approach is to care for the bird as a canary first: assess body condition, song or sex when possible, molt, feet, beak, and breathing before worrying about a breed name. Unknown-breed canaries should not be advertised as show stock unless their background is documented. They can still make useful companion or aviary birds, but breeding them requires honest labeling and attention to health, feather quality, and temperament rather than assumptions based on color.
