Arabian Mau
The Arabian Mau is a naturally developed domestic cat of the Arabian Peninsula, especially the Gulf region, rather than a breed created through a formal crossing program. These cats descend from desert and city cats that adapted to hot, dry conditions around homes, markets, farms, and ports. They are usually medium to large, lean, long-legged, and muscular, with large ears, alert oval eyes, and a short single coat that lies close to the body. Tabby patterns are common, but solid, bicolor, and other colors occur depending on the line and registry.
In homes, Arabian Maus tend to be active, athletic cats that appreciate climbing space, play, and safe access to fresh air through a screened balcony, catio, or secure garden. Their coat needs little more than occasional brushing, but heat tolerance should not be confused with immunity to dehydration, sun, or cold indoor air conditioning. Many cats of this type enter rescue from street or colony backgrounds, so patient socialization and veterinary screening matter. Breeders working with registered Arabian Maus usually focus on preserving the natural regional type while selecting for stable temperament and health.
