Egyptian Mau
The Egyptian Mau is a domestic cat breed with a naturally spotted coat, lean athletic build, and alert expression. Modern Maus are associated with breeding programs developed from Egyptian and European sources, and many registries recognize silver, bronze, and smoke as the main show colors. The spots are part of the coat pattern, not large rosettes, which gives the Mau a different look from hybrid-derived spotted breeds.
Egyptian Mau owners usually manage an active, intelligent cat that benefits from climbing space, play, and predictable routines. The short coat is easy to maintain, but enrichment and weight control matter because many Maus stay quick and energetic. Breeders should be able to discuss pedigree, accepted colors, and any health screening used in their program. For buyers, documentation and breed type are what separate a registered Mau from a domestic spotted tabby.
