European Shorthair
The European Shorthair is a standardized breed developed from ordinary European domestic cats while preserving a natural, moderate body type. It is not simply a catchall for any shorthaired cat in Europe, although it resembles the sound farm, town, and household cats that shaped it. The breed allows many coat colors and patterns, with emphasis on balanced proportions, a dense short coat, and a robust but not exaggerated build.
European Shorthair care is straightforward domestic cat care: good food, routine veterinary attention, play, scratching outlets, and safe indoor or controlled outdoor access where appropriate. Breeders value health, temperament, and natural type rather than extreme features. Because the name can be confused with domestic shorthair, British Shorthair, or Celtic-style cats in casual use, registration and pedigree matter when the breed identity is important. For owners, the appeal is a practical, hardy companion with a familiar cat shape.
