Exotic Shorthair
The Exotic Shorthair is often described as the short-coated counterpart to the Persian. It has a rounded head, broad face, short nose, heavy-boned body, and a dense plush coat that stands away from the body more than a typical domestic shorthair coat. The breed comes in many Persian-style colors and patterns, so type and coat texture define it more than one particular color.
The short coat does not remove grooming from the routine, since the dense undercoat can mat unless it is combed regularly. The face deserves equal attention. Flatter-faced Exotic Shorthairs may need help with tear staining, eye cleaning, breathing comfort, or heat tolerance. Good catteries discuss health screening, jaw and airway structure, and any kidney or heart concerns known in the pedigree. A buyer is better served by open nostrils, clear eyes, sound movement, and an even temperament than by roundness alone.
