German Rex
The German Rex is a rare curly-coated cat breed that developed in Germany from naturally occurring rex-coated cats. Its coat is usually short, soft, and wavy, with reduced guard hair compared with many straight-coated breeds. The body type is moderate rather than extreme, and the breed is separate from the Devon Rex and Cornish Rex even though all three are associated with curly coats.
German Rex cats are kept much like other active indoor cats, with routine play, scratching options, dental care, and protection from cold if the coat is thin. Grooming is gentle because over-brushing can damage the wavy coat. Breeders should be able to explain the line, outcross history, and any health testing used to maintain a small gene pool responsibly. For buyers, rarity should not outweigh practical checks: the cat should have healthy skin, good body condition, clear records, and a temperament suited to close household contact.
