Kurilian Bobtail
The Kurilian Bobtail is a natural bobtailed cat associated with the Kuril Islands and nearby Russian regions. It has a sturdy, muscular body, a rounded or slightly arched back, and a short tail that forms an individual pom-pom through kinks and curves. Both shorthair and semilonghair varieties are known, often with a dense, practical coat suited to a cool island climate. The breed has a more robust look than many refined Oriental breeds, and brown tabby patterns are especially familiar.
Kurilian Bobtails are usually managed as active, intelligent cats that need climbing space, play, and secure territory. Their tails should be described and photographed carefully in breeding records because no two are exactly alike. The coat is moderate but still needs seasonal grooming, especially in semilonghaired cats. Since the breed remains uncommon in many countries, buyers should check registry recognition, import background, and health documentation. A naturally short tail alone is not enough to identify a Kurilian Bobtail.
