Oriental
Oriental is a broad Siamese-family breed label for cats with a long tubular body, wedge-shaped head, large ears, fine legs, and an alert look. Unlike traditional Siamese cats, Orientals are bred in a wide range of coat colors and patterns, including solid, smoke, shaded, tabby, tortoiseshell, and bicolor forms depending on the registry. The term may include shorthair and longhair divisions, or it may be used informally for the Oriental Shorthair group.
These cats are usually intensely social and need interaction, play, and mental work. Many are vocal and persistent, so they fit homes that enjoy an involved cat rather than a quiet background pet. Shorthaired forms need little grooming, while longhaired forms need more coat attention around the tail and britches. Breeders should keep the lean Oriental outline without weakening structure or narrowing pedigrees too far. Buyers should check whether a listing means Oriental Shorthair, Oriental Longhair, or a registry-specific Oriental division.
