Allmogekor
Allmogekor means old Swedish peasant cows and is better understood as a group of native landrace cattle than as one tightly standardized breed. These cattle descend from small farm populations that existed before modern Swedish dairy improvement programs. Depending on the line, they may be horned or polled and can show red, black, spotted, brindled, or pale coats, with compact bodies and a practical dual-purpose background.
Smallholders and conservation herds keep allmogekor for heritage grazing, household milk, calves, and genetic diversity. They are usually hardy, thrifty cattle for northern conditions, but they do not produce like specialized Holsteins or modern beef composites. Breeding choices matter because many lines are numerically small; keepers often coordinate matings to avoid inbreeding and to preserve local family names, cow families, and traits such as sound feet and easy calving.
