Beefmaker
Beefmaker is a lesser-known composite beef cattle breed generally described as a Hereford-Simmental derivative. It was developed to put the growth, muscling, and milk of Simmental into a more moderate, maternal beef cow while retaining much of the Hereford's hardiness and recognizable red body with white face in many lines. Because it is a composite rather than an old landrace, type can vary by breeder and by how strictly the herd has been selected.
Beefmaker cattle are used mainly in commercial suckler herds and crossbreeding programs, where predictable calves and practical cows matter more than a rare-breed display. Sound udders, feet, fertility, and calving ease should be weighed alongside growth figures, particularly if bulls are used on heifers. The breed is uncommon, so buyers may need to rely on individual herd records and direct inspection rather than a large public marketplace. It suits producers looking for Hereford-influenced cattle with extra performance, provided animals fit local feed and climate.
