Blanca Cacereña
Blanca Cacereña is a rare Spanish cattle breed from Extremadura, especially the Cáceres area that gives it its name. It is an old local type of Bos taurus shaped by dry pasture, seasonal forage, and work on the dehesa. Animals are usually white to pale gray, with dark skin pigmentation on the muzzle, eyes, hooves, and other points helping them cope with strong sun. Historically the breed supplied draft power and local meat; today it is known mainly as a rustic beef and conservation breed.
Most Blanca Cacereña cattle are kept in extensive systems where grazing ability, heat tolerance, and the capacity to use rough forage are more important than rapid finishing. Calves may be raised for regional beef channels, while breeding females are valued for hardiness and mothering under low-input conditions. Because the population is small, conservation herds depend on careful mating choices and breed records to avoid narrowing the gene pool. Prospective keepers should plan for slower growth than commercial continental beef breeds but strong adaptation to its home environment.
