Lincoln Red
Lincoln Red cattle are a British beef breed from Lincolnshire, developed from local red cattle that were later shaped by Shorthorn influence. The breed is recognized by its solid deep red to cherry-red coat, broad body, and good natural fleshing. Modern Lincoln Reds are usually polled, although the older history of the breed included horned cattle. Once kept as a dual-purpose animal for milk and beef, the Lincoln Red is now mainly a beef breed with a reputation for maternal ability and useful milk for raising calves.
The breed suits grass-based suckler herds, especially where producers want red, polled cattle with enough frame for commercial beef crossing. Cows are generally managed for longevity, fertility, and the ability to rear a calf without heavy supplementation. Bulls may be used over dairy or beef females where a red-coated, well-muscled calf is desired, but calving data and mature size should still be checked by line. For pedigree herds, maintaining the solid red color and functional feet, udders, and temperament is as important as show-ring style.
