Menorquina
Menorquina cattle, or Menorcan cattle, are the native cattle of Menorca in Spain's Balearic Islands. They are a rustic Mediterranean island breed, traditionally used for milk, meat, and farm work before specialized dairy breeds became more common. Animals are usually red to chestnut or mahogany in tone, with a medium frame, strong limbs, and the practical build of cattle shaped by small farms, dry summers, and rough grazing. The breed is now best known as a local genetic resource tied to Menorca's rural landscape.
Most Menorquina cattle are kept in conservation-minded herds, family farms, or small commercial systems rather than large industrial dairies. They need the same basic cattle care as other breeds, but their value comes from careful pure breeding, pasture use, and adaptation to local climate. Because numbers are limited, buyers and breeders should verify herdbook status where available and avoid casual crossing that dilutes a rare island population.
