Prim'holstein
Prim'holstein is the French Holstein-Friesian dairy cattle population, descended from black-and-white European Friesian cattle and heavily shaped by modern Holstein selection. It is the dominant dairy breed in France and is seen in the familiar piebald black-and-white pattern, with red-and-white animals present in some bloodlines. Compared with older dual-purpose Friesian types, Prim'holstein cattle are specialized for milk yield, udder capacity, dairy character, and efficient performance in recording and artificial insemination programs.
Successful Prim'holstein herds depend less on the label than on daily dairy management. High-producing cows need balanced rations, comfortable lying space, reliable milking routines, and early attention to feet, udders, fertility, and transition-cow health. Breeding plans commonly use genomic evaluations and milk records, but commercial farms still have to match sires to the herd's weaknesses rather than chase production alone. Buyers should look at lifetime performance, udder and leg structure, somatic cell history, calving traits, and whether the animals are suited to pasture-based, housed, organic, or intensive systems.
