Swedish Red-And-White
The Swedish red-and-white, widely known today as Swedish Red or SRB, is a major Swedish dairy breed developed from native red-and-white cattle with strong Ayrshire and organized Swedish selection behind it. Cows are medium framed, usually red with white markings or red-pied, and built more for durable milk production than extreme size. Modern breeding has made the breed known internationally for functional traits such as udder health, fertility, calving ease, hoof quality, and milk solids as well as yield.
In dairy herds, Swedish red-and-white cattle work in housed systems, seasonal pasture programs, and crossbreeding schemes with Holstein or other dairy breeds. They still need the same close attention to transition feeding, mastitis prevention, hoof trimming, and calf rearing as any high-producing cow. Semen from Swedish Red bulls is commonly chosen when a herd wants improved fertility or health traits without giving up commercial milk performance. Buyers should compare herd records, sire proofs, and local feed conditions rather than relying on coat color.
