Tuli
The Tuli is a southern African Sanga beef breed developed from cattle adapted to the dry regions around the Tuli area of Zimbabwe. It is usually red, yellow, or golden-brown, with a moderate frame and a small hump typical of Sanga cattle. The breed was selected for beef usefulness under hot, dry conditions, where fertility, walking ability, and survival on rough grazing can matter more than maximum size.
Tuli cattle are used in purebred herds and crossbreeding programs that need heat tolerance, early maturity, and maternal reliability. Ranchers often value them for calving ease and the ability to maintain condition when pasture quality changes. Good management still matters: bulls should be checked for soundness, cows need mineral support, and calves benefit from low-stress handling. In crossbreeding, the Tuli contribution should be planned rather than accidental so adaptation traits are not lost in pursuit of heavier calves.
