Changshun Blue-Eggshell
Changshun blue-eggshell chickens are a local Chinese chicken type from Changshun County in Guizhou Province, selected around hens that lay blue or blue-green shelled eggs. Like several Chinese native breeds, they are generally maintained as dual-purpose village fowl rather than highly uniform exhibition birds. Plumage and body size may vary between lines, but the eggshell color gives the population its practical and conservation interest.
Flocks are usually managed for both egg color and local adaptation, so breeding pairs should be chosen from hens that reliably produce blue eggs and from unrelated, healthy birds. They suit small farms where chickens can forage during the day and return to secure housing at night. Production is typically more moderate than commercial layers, but the eggs can have niche value. Clear record keeping helps preserve the eggshell-color trait without losing vigor.
