Krishna-J
Krishna-J is an Indian improved backyard chicken developed for rural and semi-intensive poultry systems. It is generally presented as a colored, dual-purpose type intended to perform better than many unmanaged village chickens while still tolerating smallholder conditions. The birds are selected for practical traits such as livability, growth, egg production, and suitability for scavenging or mixed feed systems rather than for a narrow exhibition appearance.
For farmers, Krishna-J fits situations where a hardy household flock needs more output without the full demands of industrial broilers or layers. Chicks still need brooding, vaccination where locally advised, and protection from predators, but mature birds can use outdoor space effectively. Buyers should source from a reliable hatchery or development program, because improved rural poultry names are sometimes copied loosely in the market. Good results depend on clean water, supplemental feed during poor forage periods, and selection for birds that remain vigorous under local conditions.
