Nandanyao
Nandanyao, often written Nandan Yao chicken, is an indigenous Chinese chicken landrace from Nandan County in Guangxi, where Yao communities and other rural households have kept village poultry in mountainous country. It is better viewed as a locally adapted population than as a highly uniform show breed. Plumage and body details may vary by village line, while the shared value is hardiness, foraging ability, and meat and egg use under smallholder conditions.
Outside China the breed is seldom available, but it appears in genetic-diversity and local livestock conservation discussions because such landraces hold adaptation that commercial hybrids may lack. Management in its home setting relies on scavenging space, household feed supplements, and night housing safe from predators. For preservation projects, the main concern is keeping enough unrelated families and documenting origin, rather than selecting only for rapid growth. Anyone importing or buying stock should expect strict animal-health rules and verify the name carefully.
