Chihuahuan Green Toad
Anaxyrus debilis
This small green toad inhabits parts of the southwestern United States and Mexico and is maintained by specialist amphibian keepers. Green upperparts with dark markings and short limbs distinguish it from larger brown toads. Ground-level enclosures need burrowing substrate, cover, moist retreats, clean shallow water and small insect prey. It lays eggs in temporary pools following rain, and the larvae develop in water. Seasonal moisture is part of its natural life, rather than permanent swamp conditions.
