Chocolate Millipede

Ophistreptus guineensis

The chocolate millipede is a large West African millipede with a cylindrical brown body and many short legs. Most trunk rings carry two leg pairs. It is kept by invertebrate enthusiasts in warm forest-floor setups with deep, moist, well-ventilated substrate rich in decaying hardwood and leaves.

These materials are its main food, with vegetables offered as supplements. It burrows to shelter and molt, so hidden animals should be left undisturbed. Females lay eggs in the substrate. Brown coloration alone cannot reliably separate all African millipedes.

Colors: Wild Type
