Colombian Brown Tarantula
Pamphobeteus fortis
The Colombian brown tarantula is a large terrestrial species from Colombia, also sold as the Colombian giant copperhead. Adult females are mostly brown; the juvenile abdominal pattern fades as they grow. Similar Pamphobeteus cannot be identified safely by color alone. Hobbyists use a secure, spacious, low enclosure with deep substrate, a sheltered retreat and water. Avoid handling because it can shed irritating abdominal hairs. Females lay eggs in a silk sac.
