Colombian Lesser Black Tarantula

The Colombian lesser black tarantula is a large terrestrial species recorded from Colombia and Venezuela. Adult females sold in the hobby have a black body, metallic pink carapace markings and pinkish abdominal hairs. Color overlaps with other Xenesthis, so identification depends on anatomy and provenance. Hobbyists provide a spacious, low enclosure with diggable substrate, a burrow or hide and water. Avoid handling because defensive abdominal hairs are irritating. Females produce silk egg sacs.
