Colombian Purple Bloom Tarantula
Pamphobeteus insignis
The Colombian purple bloom tarantula is a large terrestrial spider from Colombia. Confirmed adult males have olive-brown hairs with a bluish-purple sheen over the upper body and legs. Ecuadorian spiders sold under similar names should not be assumed to be this species, and the female's identity remains unresolved in modern revisions. Experienced hobbyists provide deep substrate, a low retreat and water in a secure enclosure. Its abdominal hairs are irritating. Like other tarantulas, it lays eggs in a silk sac.
