Common European Toad
Bufo bufo
The common European toad is a stout, warty amphibian of much of Europe and nearby western Asia. Specialist keepers provide ground-level enclosures with soil, hides, both moist and drier retreats, clean water and varied invertebrate prey. Adults are usually brown and have copper-colored eyes with horizontal pupils. Females lay long strings of eggs in water, where the tadpoles develop. Its plain coloring differs from the patchy European green toad and the yellow-lined natterjack.
