Granite

Granite is the common name for a corn snake carrying both anerythristic and diffused, often described as the grayscale version of a bloodred. Anery removes the red-orange pigment, while diffused breaks up the side pattern and reduces the belly checkering. Many granite Pantherophis guttatus hatch with visible gray saddles, then develop a darker slate, peppered, or smoky look as the pattern blurs with age. The name fits the speckled stone-like effect seen in some lines, especially where the diffusion is strong.

Granite corns do not need different care from other corn snakes, but they are a genetic combination rather than a single visual impression. Both recessive traits must be accounted for when planning pairings, and hatchlings can be misleading if the diffused pattern has not fully expressed yet. Breeders may select either for clean, nearly solid gray adults or for high-contrast speckling. A buyer should ask for the animal's genetic makeup and, if possible, photos of older relatives to judge how the line matures.
